Storytime--Sharks!

I only had one family come for storytime today, but we had a good time! They were so excited about the shark books and enthralled the entire time. We did the flannelboard, but after that they just couldn't wait to grab the next book! We of course ended with the craft. They loved the books though, they brought home Shark vs. Train and The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark (which they wanted me to read again!). Storytimes with kids that excited about reading are the best, and the small size let me really concentrate on them.

Fingerplay:

Two hungry sharks  (hold up squid hands with both hands)

Swimming on a wave   (make squid hands "swim")

One named Dorothy, one named Dave  (hold up squid hands with both hands)

Chomp, chomp, Dorothy  (make right squid hand go nom nom)

Chomp, chomp, Dave (make left squid hand go nom nom)

Swim away Dorothy (make right squid "swim")

Swim away Dave!  (make left squid "swim")

Flannelboard:

Five little fish, swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
"You can't catch me!"
When along came Mr. Shark, as quiet as can be..
AND CHOMP! caught that fishy right out of the sea!
(Repeat for 4, 3, 2, 1)
So alone swam Mr. Shark as quiet as can be
And he looked and he looked...
"No more fishies for me!"

Action Activity:

 Baby Jaws,  (thumb and index finger open and shut like a mouth)
Mama Jaws,  (Hand opens and shuts)
Papa jaws, (two hands together open and shut) 

 Grandpa Jaws,  (fists together to look like toothless mouth)
Giant jaws, (arms together to make mouth)
