Storytime--Valentine's Day

The flannelboard rhyme was fun. I had made six colorful flannel envelopes with cartoon pictures of each animal inside them. I had a very small group so I let the kids open the envelopes for me when we came to each one, and they liked that very much. The craft was the highlight for the kids, as usual. This one they thought was silly and had a great time with it. I had all the pieces in pink, red, and purple, so they could mix and match them as they wanted. Splat was the favorite of the books, but Foxy in Love was a great one too.

Valentine's Day

Flannelboard Rhyme

Six little Valentines were sent to my house,
The first one said, “I love you, From Mouse.”
Five little Valentines in my mailbox,
The second one said, “Be mine, Love Fox.”
Four little Valentines full of love,
The third one said, “You are sweet, From Dove.”
Three little Valentines just for me,
The fourth one said, “Be my honey, Love Bee.”
Two little Valentine’s mailed with care,
The fifth one said, “Here’s a hug, From Bear.”
The last little Valentine, from my friend Jay,
This one said, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

Storytime--Birds

Yes, we are doing birds in February because it is horrible and cold and we need to think about spring! This was a home run. I get a range of kids from toddler to early grade school (I have a lot of homeschoolers), and these stories kept everyone's attention.  The kids especially enjoyed Duck on a Bike and Chicken Big, which they thought were hilarious! I found the flannelboard rhyme all over the internet so I'm not sure who I should credit it to, but if I can figure it out I'll add that later.

Birds:

Flannelboard Rhyme:

1 little bird with feathers of blue, flew beside the green one and then there were 2
2 little birds singing in the tree, the red one came to join them and then there were 3
3 little birds wishing there were more, along came the purple bird and then there were 4
4 little birds happy to be alive, found a yellow one and then there were 5
5 little birds happy as can be, singing beautiful songs just for you and me!

Books:

Blue Chicken by Deborah Freedman
Duck on a Bike by David Shannon
