Storytime--Penguins



Books:
Playful Little Penguins by Tony Mitton

Fingerplay:

Five perky penguins stood on the shore.  (hold up five fingers)
One went for a swim and then there were four (do swimming motions)
Four perky penguins looked out to sea (shade eyes with hand)
One went swimming and then there were three (swimming motions)
Three perky penguins said, “What can we do?”
One jumped in the water and then there were two (pretend to jump in water)
Two perky penguins, sat in the sun.
One swam off and then there was one (swimming motions)
One perky penguin said “This is no fun!” He dived in the water, (diving motion) and then there were none.


 Flannelboard:


1 baby penguin makes a wish
2 baby penguins catch a fish
3 baby penguins slip and slide
4 baby penguins run and hide
5 baby penguins look around, calling “Mamma! Mamma! Mamma!”
Now they are found!



Action Activity:

Sleeping, sleeping, aaalllll the children are sleeping, and when they woke up they were:
Penguins!
Polar Bears!
Reindeer!
Dogs!
Bunnies!
Penguins!
Sitting nicely, ready to listen to the next stor

Fingerplay:

Time for bed, time for bed
Fluff up the pillow, (make fluffing motions with hands)
Lay down your head. (palms together, hands to side of face)
Tuck it in tight. (pull imaginary blanket up to chin)
Close your eyes (close eyes)
And sleep all night. (snore)

Flannelboard:

Ten in the Bed

Action Activity:

Big yellow moon shines so bright, (circle overhead)
Glides across the starry night (arms left to right)
Looks down at me (hand shades eyes)
Asleep in bed, (head on hands)
Whispers, “Good night sleepyhead.” (shh)
Big yellow moon, your turn is done (move arms down)
Here comes Mr. Morning Sun (circle overhead)
I wake up. (arms stretch out)
You go to bed. (head on hands)
“Sleep well, Moon, you sleepyhead.” (shh)
